Laois Gardaí have successfully arrested and charged a man with two attempted robberies in Laois, at least one involving a knife, following an appeal for public assistance for witnesses.
This Tuesday, October 14, a male appeared before Portlaoise District Court, where he was remanded in custody.
He has been charged with two attempted robberies.
It follows two disturbing separate incidents in Laois last week where in each case a man armed with a knife made two attempted robberies.
One was at a service station in Mountmellick on September 29, another on the Mountmellick Road in Portlaoise approaching a woman in her car on October 4. It is unclear if both incidents were by the same person. Read here.
The Gardaí issued an appeal last Friday, for witnesses to the Portlaoise incident, and have now confirmed it has helped them to apprehend the suspect.
"An Garda Síochána would like to thank the local community for their assistance and cooperation during the course of this investigation. Community support continues to play a vital role in helping us keep our towns and villages safe," they say.
They urge people to contact them with any information on crimes.
