Portarlington, fresh from lifting their fifth Laois SFC title in six years, are set to play in front of the RTÉ cameras this weekend.
Their reward for winning yet another Laois Senior Football Championship is a short trip to Netwatch Cullen Park to face Carlow champions Old Leighlin, who are managed by former Portarlington manager Brian Lonergan, in the first round of the AIB Leinster Club Senior Football Championship.
Portarlington reached the Leinster semi-finals in 2021 and 2022, but lost out to eventual Leinster champions Kilmacud Crokes on both occasions. They didn't get to play the 2020 version of the competition due to Covid, and then last year, they were shocked by Wicklow's Tinahely. However, the team that took to the field against Tinahely three weeks after winning the Laois SFC was a lot different, with Colm Murphy, Paddy O'Sullivan, Robbie Pigott having returned to Australia, while Eoin McCann went travelling to South America.
The game will throw-in at 6.15pm on Saturday, November 1. The match coverage will begin at 6pm on RTÉ Two. The winners of Saturday's game will face the winners of Baltinglass (Wicklow) v Athy (Kildare) in the semi-finals.
