Approach to the playground in Timahoe.
Double yellow lines are needed near Timahoe playground because parked cars are preventing tractors and larger vehicles from passing.
So insists Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal McEvoy, who requested the measure in a motion at a recent Laois Council meeting in Portlaoise.
He called on Laois County Council to mark the roads around the playground.
In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said: “The Municipal District Engineer will meet with Cllr McEvoy at this location to review the area and current parking arrangements at the playground and determine if additional line marking provisions are warranted.”
Cllr McEvoy explained that the road in question was very narrow and people often park on it.
“There are farmers, particularly in the summertime when they are busy and they can’t get past,” he explained.
He said double yellow lines should fix the problem.

“It is causing major problems there for farmers trying to get up and down that road,” he remarked.
The motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan at the monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District in October.
