Cllr Padraig Fleming wasn't sure if he was promised a solution to a problem or not.
Laois County Council intends to assess a section of road in The Swan to see if it can alleviate pooling water, following a request from Fianna Fail councillor.
Cllr Padraig Fleming tabled a motion at a recent meeting asking for a gully on the R430 in The Swan village, between the health centre and the school, to alleviate ponding on the road.
In reply, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan said: “Laois County Council will review the roadside drainage at this location and will consider interventions if necessary to alleviate against any ponding. This section of road is also scheduled for resurfacing works in the 2026 Restoration Improvement Programme,” he said.
Seeking clarity, Cllr Fleming asked Mr Drennan: “Are you telling me we have a solution?”
Mr Drennan said an assessment was needed.
“I can’t give you an engineering solution right here and now. I will carry out an assessment and meet you on site if needs be,” said Mr Drennan.
