Youths damage Laois Offaly Garda squad car on Halloween night

A squad car was damaged by youths on Halloween night, Laois Offaly Garda Division has reported.

The window of a Garda car was smashed.

The criminal incident happened in Tullamore in Offaly.

The Gardaí say that they had to deal with several incidents of anti-social behaviour, including damage to a Garda patrol car earlier this evening, in Tullamore and across the county.

They issued a message on Halloween to parents asking "do you know where your children are tonight?".

"We are appealing to parents and guardians to be aware of where their children are, who they are with, and what they are doing.

"While the vast majority of young people are respectful and well-behaved, a small number of incidents like these place others — and Garda members — at risk.

"Please take a moment tonight to check in, make that call, and ensure your children are safe and accounted for. Community safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s work together to keep our towns and villages safe for all."

Laois Offaly Gardaí had also reminded the public that fireworks are illegal and dangerous.

"Every year, fireworks and bonfires cause injuries, fear, and damage in our communities - not to mention the distress caused to pets.

"Fireworks are illegal, and the penalties are serious. This Halloween, don’t take the risk. Let’s keep our communities and families safe".
