Direction signs in the Slieve Bloom mountains.
Laois has been awarded the final wave of cash needed to upgrade direction signs and information boards to guide visitors to the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
The Outdoor Recreation Fund granted €16.5m across Ireland, with €152,350 going to a single project for Laois, the Destination Slieve Bloom Signage Strategy.
Simon Walton, Director of Services at Laois County Council explained the grant to the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
“The grant refers to an ongoing signage project to improve the visitor experience and put interpretive signs around the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
“This funding is allocated to complete the project that has been underway for a number of years. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2025,” he said.
Laois TD Willie Aird welcomed the grant.
“This is more than just infrastructure, it will improve lives in Laois. These projects will give people greater access to nature, recreation and community spaces to support physical and mental wellbeing.”
