A woman was left shaken after being threatened and having her handbag snatched by a man in Portlaoise on Saturday evening.
Laois Gardaí arrested the suspect within an hour of the robbery which took place outside the cinema at Church Street, Portlaoise at around 8pm on Saturday, November 9.
“A lady outside the cinema in Church Street was threatened by an individual. He removed her handbag and took off,” a senior Laois Garda said. He said the woman “was shaken” but alright following her ordeal.
Gardaí said the man, who is aged in his late 20s and from the local area, was arrested in the Portlaoise area about an hour later.

The man is being detained by gardaí and is expected to appear before Portlaoise District Court in the coming days.
Gardaí said all of the property was recovered and they thanked the public who they said had assisted in the investigation.
