Man banned from Laois direct provision centre

A man has been ordered to stay away from a direct provision centre in Laois.

Fraidoon Omar (40) of Airways Integration Centre, Unit 29, Viscount Avenue, Dublin 17 appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of trespass at Hibernian Direct Provision, Pembroke Terrace, Abbeyleix on November 8 last.

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court where Garda Metthew McGrath gave evidence of arresting the accused at 9.10pm on the date in question. He said the defendant replied after caution, “I just want to stay with my wife and family.”

“There is a number of bail conditions that I am looking to put on the accused,” said Garda McGrath.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said the bail conditions were agreed. His client was assisted in  court by an interpreter.

The conditions included that the defendant reside at his Dublin address, that he have no contact directly or indirectly with staff at Hibernian Direct Provision Centre in Abbeyleix, that he notify gardaí of any change of address, that he stay away from the Hibernian Direct Provision Centre and stay out of the town of Abbeyleix.

Judge Susan Fay granted Mr Fitzgerald’s request for legal aid and a Persian interpreter for the next date.

She remanded the defendant on bail and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on December 8.
