Sunday promises to be a big day for Laois GAA and Laois Camogie with two sides in provincial action. Camross take on Meath’s Na Fianna in the Leinster Club Intermediate Camogie Championship final at SETU Carlow, while Portarlington travel to Drogheda to face Naomh Mairtin in the AIB Leinster Club Senior Football quarter-final.
Camross arrive in superb form after hammering Naas in last weekend’s semi-final, with Sarah Anne Fitzgerald and Kirsten Keenan both hitting multiple goals. Na Fianna, Leinster champions as recently as 2023, will provide a stern test for the Laois champions.
Camross are in action for the fourth week in a row with a chance to claim Leinster glory as they take on Meath side Na Fianna in the Leinster Club Intermediate Camogie Championship Final at SETU Carlow.
The Laois champions come into the decider in scintillating form after a six-goal demolition of Naas in last weekend’s semi-final. Sarah Anne Fitzgerald and Kirsten Keenan netted two goals each, while Aimee Collier and Erin Walsh contributed one apiece, helping Camross reach the final with authority.
Their opening Round 1 game was a closer affair, a three-point win over Westmeath’s Clonkill, in which Fitzgerald starred again, scoring 2-8 out of Camross’ 3-10 total. Her scoring prowess will be key as Camross aim to maintain momentum in Sunday’s decider.
Na Fianna, Leinster champions as recently as 2023, provide a stern challenge. Notably, St Brigid’s, the team Camross beat in this year’s Laois final, defeated Na Fianna in last year’s Leinster competition en route to their title, indicating the Meath side’s pedigree and experience in high-stakes matches.
Expect a competitive contest between the two sides in Sunday's final in Carlow.
Portarlington travel to Louth on Sunday to face Naomh Mairtin in the Leinster Club Senior Football quarter-finals, with a semi-final spot at stake.
The Laois side impressed in Round 1, defeating Old Leighlin of Carlow comfortably. It goes without saying that Naomh Mairtin's biggest threat will be in the form of Sam Mulroy, who captained his county to a Leinster Senior Football Championship earlier in the year and was rewarded with a PWC All-Star last weekend at the RDS.
The winners will face either Athy or Summerhill, who clashed in Newbridge on Saturday evening in a match broadcast live on RTÉ2.
You can follow all the action on our live blog, which will be on the Leinster Express/Laois Live website and on Facebook.
