Portarlington GAA captain Ronan Coffey has organised a fundraiser to support the club’s senior football team as they prepare for their AIB Leinster Club Senior Football Championship semi-final against Athy of Kildare on Saturday.

Portarlington have never reached the final of the provincial competition. They were beaten at the semi-final stage in both 2021 and 2022 by Dublin’s Kilmacud Crokes.

Their 2025 campaign has already taken them on the road twice. In Round 1, they travelled to Carlow where they defeated Old Leighlin, before making the trip to Drogheda for the quarter-final win over Louth champions Naomh Mairtín.

In launching the Portarlington Senior Football Team Fund, Coffey and the squad thanked supporters for their backing throughout the year, with particular appreciation for those who travelled to Drogheda on Sunday, November 16.

"The team would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported them over the course of the year, and particularly to each and every person who travelled to Drogheda on Sunday and played their part as Port’s 16th man. Hopefully, we will have that and more in Newbridge next Saturday, as that is the best support of all.

"As our Senior footballers continue their quest to win a Leinster Club Football Championship, they need the continued support of the people of Portarlington," the text reads on the iDonate page. At the time of writing, the fundraiser stands at €20,869.

Portarlington will meet Athy next Saturday in Newbridge as they seek to reach the Leinster final for the first time.
