Homeless figures on the rise.
The number of people recorded as homeless in Laois last month is up more than 60% in comparison to this time last year.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing show there were 52 people recorded as homeless in Laois in October, up from 32 in October 2024.
The number of people availing of emergency accommodation from the local authority in Laois during the week of October 20 to 26 fell slightly from 53 the previous month in September.
The final publication of the Department of Housing's homelessness figures before Christmas shows across the midlands there were 56 families in local authority emergency accommodation. This included 71 adults and 120 children.

There were 220 adults availing of emergency accommodation across the midlands during the week recorded in October. The majority were aged between 25 to 44 (121). There were 57 people aged between 45 and 64 and there were nine people aged over 65 homeless in the region.
Nationally the number of people in emergency accommodation reached record high with 16,766 people accessing services.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Housing, 11,492 adults and 5,274 children were in emergency accommodation in October.
