An Taisce has honoured Boley beef farmer Brian Meredith and Vito Romito for their Outstanding Achievements in 2025 at the National Climate Ambassador Awards.
Brian, an organic beef farmer of the Meredith Farm and Vito, who works with the ESB Fisheries Conservation, joined the Climate Ambassador Programme as friends.
“Their love for the natural world fuelled their efforts for some truly brilliant climate and environmental change. Individually, they worked hard with litter picks, environmental film screenings, apple tree planting and methane mitigation workshops,” said An Taisce.
The organisers continued: “Working together, the pair celebrated both Biodiversity and Heritage weeks with inclusive public farm ‘walks and talks’ on science-based insights on biodiversity on the farm”.
These include the benefits of trees in farming; nutrient recycling in organic systems; pollinators and insect life; lack of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides use.
They also restored a local stream to its course.
“Freshwater invertebrates and fish fry are more than thankful for this work, as they can now enjoy larger stretches of healthy water,” said An Taisce in a statement to the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
The Climate Ambassador Programme, with the support of the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, has been in operation since 2017.

Throughout the year, Climate Ambassadors engaged their communities in enhancing biodiversity, coastal conservation, freshwater ecology, the circular economy, environmental education, nature restoration, sustainable travel, climate communication through the arts, sustainable energy, tree planting, rewilding, peatland preservation, flood mapping and prevention, and environmental advocacy.
"An Taisce commends this year’s Climate Ambassadors for uniting communities, boosting neighbourhood bonds, building trust, bridging generational gaps, and playing an important role in shaping Ireland’s future," said a statement.
