Laois senior citizens Christmas party promises delicious dinner and day of dancing

The Portlaoise Parish Senior Citizens group are excited to announce that they will be holding their annual Christmas party this January.

This is the 59th annual POPA Christmas party, and the second year of its return following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chairperson Mr Eugene Lacey told the Leinster Express / Laois Live that the group promise 'a great event'.

"It was lovely returning to the swing of things last year, we had to stop holding the parties for five years during the pandemic," Mr Lacey explained.

"We really enjoyed it, the hotel was lovely and there was great entertainment. We hope that the party is back for good now," he said.

The group was founded by Peter Reddin and Dickie Byrne, with Mr Lacey involved in the group since 1972. 

"This year we will have music from Billy White," he said.

The 59th annual POPA Senior Citizens Christmas Party will take place in the Killeshin Hotel on Sunday January 11 2026, with dinner at 2pm.

The event is exclusive to Portlaoise Parish members, aged 65+. 

Entry costs €15 per person. and €20 for a care assistant if required.  Tickets are available from Mr Eugene Lacey at 087 253 5924, or in Martley's shop. Tickets can also be bought at Portlaoise Parish Centre, or from any group members.
