Hundreds of Santas are about to cycle through Portlaoise

Jolly Laois Christmas fundraiser by Portlaoise soccer club to support Down Syndrome charity

Hundreds of Santas are about to cycle through Portlaoise

The cycling Santas are on the road again.

It will be a sight to behold, when hundreds of Santas take to the streets of Portlaoise, on their fairy lit bicycles.

A Laois soccer club is holding a wonderful Christmas fundraiser on Saturday, December 20, to gladden the heart of any Grinch.

Portlaoise AFC are inviting the public to add fairy lights to their bicycles, wear a santa suit and join in the Santa Cycle through Portlaoise.

"The Light up your Bike charity cycle is a fun, gentle cycle around Portlaoise town to spread some festive cheer and support two great causes," the club says.

It starts at 4pm, departing from the club grounds at Rossleighan Park on the Mountmellick road.

All donations will be split evenly between Portlaoise AFC Astro ’26 Project and Midlands Down Syndrome.

After the cycle, participants are invited to pop into the Club Hub for a sweet treat and a big Christmas raffle.  Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult. The cycle will be chaperoned and guided by community Gardaí.

It is one of many Laois active events on offer over the Christmas season. See more in our Christmas in Laois section.
