From Ken Blacks to Bacardi: Laois shops hit with string of thefts

Laois Gardaí have highlighted that a string of thefts from local businesses have taken place this past week.

On Tuesday December 9, the Aldi on Portarlington's main street saw a bottle of gin taken at 4:40pm. A female was seen entering the shop on CCTV footage. Investigations are underway.

On Monday December 8, a theft occurred in Ken Black's Portlaoise at 5:30pm. The item is described to be a cosmetic toiletry item, costing €12.99. A female was seen leaving the shop, investigations are ongoing.

Also on December 9, Portarlington's Lidl saw a customer leave with €85 worth of groceries. At 6pm, a male was seen walking past all points of payment with the goods, leaving without paying. Investigations are ongoing.

On December 10 in Supervalu Portarlington, a bottle of Bacardi a bottle of Bacardi worth €25 was taken by a male from the shop at 3:30pm.

A Garda representative told the Leinster Express / Laois Live that Laois Gardaí have extra patrols over the Christmas period on a daily basis, to help curb thefts from shops.

The representative said that Gardaí have increased their high visibility in shops while on their patrols, and that these thefts will be taken seriously. Gardaí also said that everyone will be fully investigated, following this spate of thefts.
