Council asked to stop ‘inappropriate’ parking at Laois estate

Double yellow lines and bollards suggested at Council meeting

Council asked to stop ‘inappropriate’ parking at Laois estate

Mount Clare Estate

A Councillor requested the installation of double yellow lines to prevent inappropriate parking at an estate in Graiguecullen

Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan asked in a motion “that Laois County Council install double yellow lines at Mount Clare Court in the interest of safety”.

Cllr Phelan explained that there had been “some inappropriate parking” taking place at the location but she said the matter appeared to now be resolved.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer Tom Drennan, said: “Laois County Council has assessed this section of road in question and has determined interventions are necessary to deter parking on the road and footpath. This will be completed within Quarter 1 of 2026.”

Mr Drennan said the double lines or bollards or a combination of both could be considered at the location.

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy at the December meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
