White Christmas in Laois? Met Éireann has the festive weather forecast

Met Éireann has made its call on the Festive weather forecast and the potential for a dusting of snow over Ireland to make it a white Christmas in Laois.

The good news is that Christmas is set to coincide with the end of the sustained spell of wet weather, which has saturated Laois and other parts of Ireland. 

Given the amount of rain that has fallen, it might be a relief for many that snow isn't registering on Met Éireann's weather radar for Christmas week and beyond as a ridge of high pressure builds over Ireland that looks set to block out precipitation. More details below post.

Forecast issued by Met Éireann for Christmas Eve features cloudy and dry for most with a few light showers or spots of drizzle, and just limited bright spells developing.

The forecaster says temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are expected in just light to moderate easterly winds, fresh at times near exposed coasts.

It should be a fairly settled voyage in Ireland on Christmas Eve night for Santa. Met Éireann expects it to be largely dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. It will be a big chilly, however, with lowest temperatures dropping to -1 to +4 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, easterly breezes with frost likely to form.

The forecaster says Christmas Day is expected to dry for most with sunny spells and just a few spots of light rain and drizzle possible. Highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in light to moderate easterly breezes, fresher at times near eastern and southern coasts.

St Stephen's Day is also shaping up to be another largely dry day with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells. Met Éireann expects highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, northeasterly breezes.

High pressure will continue to dominate for the weekend with mostly dry conditions and highest daytime temperatures generally ranging between 4 and 8 degrees.
