Gardaí seize HGV at Christmas checkpoint
Laois Gardai seized a lorry after its driver tested positive for cocaine and cannabis at a Christmas Checkpoint.
“Volvo builds some of the safest trucks on the roads today. Advanced braking. Collision avoidance. Driver-assist systems designed to save lives.
This morning though none of these features mattered when this Volvo was stopped at the first MIT checkpoint of the day,” Laois Gardaí said in an online post.
They said the driver was tested positive for cannabis and for cocaine.
“And just like that, every safety feature became irrelevant...The reality is: No system can override impairment. No technology can correct bad judgement. That's why these checkpoints are carried out,” Gardaí stated.
The driver was arrested and Gardai seized the truck.
