Lack of lighting in Laois town 'extremely dangerous' for walkers

New public lighting must be installed in Rathdowney as it is "extremely dangerous at night time", according to local councillors.


Speaking at the December meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory / Mountmellick MD, Councillor John King raised a motion for Laois County Council to seek funding to provide public lighting from the Golf Links road junction in Rathdowney to Dunne's Store on the Galmoy road.


The council said Road Design will assess the location and get cost estimates for the installation of new public lights. They advised some Councillor Discretionary Funding will be required. Cllr King said he is happy to do so.
