RIP: Andy Dowling
Portlaoise GAA Club paid tribute to much loved and respected Portlaoise man, Andy Dowling.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 29.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Andy Dowling, who died yesterday morning. Andy was a much-loved and respected figure in Portlaoise, and his loss will be felt right across the town,” Portlaoise GAA Club stated in an online post.
Portlaoise GAA said: “Only a couple of short months ago, Andy was in O’Moore Park with his family, cheering proudly as his grandson Cian represented Portlaoise in the minor football county final.
His own son Andrew has been a stalwart on the field for Portlaoise for many years, and Andy followed his progress with immense pride."
“The Dowling family have endured heartbreaking loss in recent years, with the tragic death of Dylan, Claire’s son, in 2023. Andy and his family bore that sorrow with quiet strength and dignity,” Portlaoise GAA stated.
They said “our thoughts and prayers are with the Dowling family at this very sad time. Andy will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. May he rest in peace."
Laois TD Brian Stanley and his wife, Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley were among those who offered their condolences online. “Deepest sympathies to Liz, Andrew and Claire and all the family on the death of Andy a gentle man . May he RIP,” they wrote.
His death notice states that Andy Dowling of Borris Rd, Portlaoise, died on Monday, December 29, 2025 peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of Liz and loving father to Andrew and Claire. And cherished grandfather to Cian and the late adored grandson Dylan.
Predeceased by his sister Kathleen and brother Jack. Deeply regretted by his loving family. Sisters Maureen O`Keeffe and Madge Dalton. Brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, neighbours and a large circle of former work colleagues and friends. May he rest in peace
Reposing at Keegans Funeral Home on this Tuesday evening from 5pm until 8pm with rosary at 7.30 pm. Removal on Wednesday to arrive at SS Peter and Paul's Church for 11 am requiem mass. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Portlaoise.
