With Christmas being such a popular time for people to pluck up the courage and pop the question to their significant other, we asked Laois locals to share their romantic proposal stories from this Christmas.

Laura Maher received her own surprise proposal from her partner Paul Oxely at 7.30am on Christmas Eve morning. Laura told the Leinster Express / Laois Live: "Just before I headed out the door to work in our coffee trailer, Rural Vagabonds, I was completely caught off guard and thought the naughty elf was up to his work again. Except Paul dropped to one knee asked me to marry him."
