Laois locals are abuzz with excitement following the opening of a new restaurant.

Savage Restaurant has been opened by owner Paul Forlea on the Mountmellick road in Portlaoise, offering a wide variety of foods to suit all palates.

Officially opening on New Year's Eve, Manager Mihai Stanescu spoke with the Leinster Express / Laois Live on what Laois foodies can expect from the business.

"We are a fresh new restaurant bringing you proper roasts, stacked smash burgers, and authentic Irish breakfasts made with quality ingredients," he said.

"We offer eat in options, takeaway options and delivery. We will be serving breakfast, lunch, starters, mains and desserts- with a huge selection on our menus," he said.

Traditional roast dinners from Savage Restaurant include roast beef, turkey and ham, and traditional bacon and cabbage. Mains also include vol au vents and beer battered cod.

The specialty 'savage' menu features a variety of authentic American stacked and smashed burgers, served with homemade chips. Diners can also enjoy several hearty pasta dishes at Laois' latest eatery.

Whether you are looking for an early full-Irish breakfast, or a late-night feast, the new business say they have it all.

"This is our first restaurant to open, we're right next to the off-licence. We will be open every day from 9am until 11pm," Mr Stanescu finished.
