A man admitted being drunk and creating a nuisance at Portlaoise Hospital.

Thomas McCormack (53) of 412 Sue Ryder Centre, Kilminchy, Portlaoise appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of being intoxicated at Portlaoise Hospital on May 4, 2025.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant was drunk and the incident took place at 2.17am. The defendant was “unsteady on his feet and he was just a nuisance”.  He said the man had five previous convictions.

Solicitor Josephine  Fitzpatrick said her client was pleading guilty to the offence. She said the man had previously been referred to the probation services and was engaging with them. Ms Fitzpatrick said her client was on disability and his means are limited.

Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €200 and gave him six months to pay.
