Woman admits thefts from Laois shops

She appeared before Portlaoise District Court

A woman admitted stealing goods valued at over €450 from two Portlaoise shops. 

Theresa Conroy (39) of Apartment 3, Hinds Square, Portlaoise, pleaded guilty to stealing items valued at €319 from the Nook and Cranny, Main Street, Portlaoise and €139 worth of clothing from Dunnes Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise on July 9, 2024. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby, said the woman who is serving a prison sentence with release date on January 27, 2027 had a total of 115 previous convictions. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that her client has been in custody since August. She said the charges were the last of the offences to be dealt with by the court. 

Judge Cody sentenced the woman to three months on each of the two charges and he suspended the sentences for three years.
