Residents of two housing estates in Laois will face some disruptions in the coming weeks due to a temporary road closure.

Laois County Council has advised that Doonane Terrace and Grove Manor in Newtown will be impacted by the road works.

The L-78774 road at Doonane Terrace, stretching from the R430 at the head of Doonane Terrace road to 25 metres beyond the entrance to Grove Manor, will close from Tuesday, 3 February to Saturday, 14 March.

The council said that the road closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of services ahead of the construction of new houses.

Last January, the construction project got underway in the village of Doonane to deliver 12 social homes. The houses are expected to be completed this year.

A traffic management plan will be in operation during this period and diversions will be clearly signposted.

A map of diversion routes will be available for inspection at www.laois.ie and at Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise.

Locals can object to the proposed road closure. Anyone who wishes to do so must email roadsadmin@laoiscoco.ie or by writing to the Administrative Officer, Roads Section, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise.

Objections must be made no later than 4pm on Wednesday 21, January.
