A book of evidence was served on a man who is accused of assault causing harm at Laois Shopping Centre. 

Jake Kelly (19) with an address at St Brigid’s Place, Portlaoise, is accused of assaulting a man causing him harm at Laois Shopping Centre on June 16, 2025. 

Garda Counihan gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the defendant at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the defendant should be sent forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise Circuit Court. 

Judge Susan Fay issued the standard alibi warning before sending the case forward to the next sittings of Portlaoise  Circuit Court beginning on February 17 at 10am. 

Solicitor Josphine Fitzpatrick was granted legal aid to include one counsel.  

Ms Fitzpatrick noted the defendant is now residing in a hostel at Cashel B&B in Tipperary. The defendant was remanded on bail with conditions which included that he stay away from Laois Shopping Centre and that he obeys a curfew.
