A woman admitted trying to smuggle drugs into Portlaoise Prison. 

Elaine O’Callaghan (46) of 10 Churchfield, O’Malley Park, Limerick admitted bringing drugs into Portlaoise Prison on November 27, 2024. 

She appeared before Portlaoise District Court where Judge Susan Fay read her probation report. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said it was a positive report and the woman was deemed suitable for community service. 

Judge Fay noted the woman had no previous convictions. She sentenced the woman to 40 hours of community service in lieu of four months in prison
