IN PICTURES: Laois athletes shine at Leinster Indoor Championships in Athlone

Strong start to 2026 indoor season for St Abban’s AC

St Abban’s AC athletes enjoyed a strong showing at the 2026 Leinster Juvenile, U20, Senior, and Masters Indoor Championships in Athlone, returning home with multiple medals and personal bests. At juvenile level, the club secured 12 individual medals and three relay medals, including silver for the Girls U13 4x200m and bronze for the Girls U15 and U19 relay teams. Gold medal winners included Faye Brennan, Joshua Crosby, Elaine Miller, Reuben Kelly, Joseph Lawlor, and Cara English, with standout performances in triple jump, shot put, pole vault, and high jump.  Silver medals went to Eabha Farrell, Leo Smith and Grainne Doyle, while bronze medals were claimed by Lily O’Neill, Aaliyah Troy and Elanna Kelly. Many athletes were competing at Leinster level for the first time, gaining valuable experience and qualifying for the upcoming Nationals. At U20 and Senior level, Annabelle Lawlor took bronze in the women’s 800m, while Grace Fitzgerald and Aoibhín McDonald won gold in long jump and pole vault, respectively. Masters athletes also excelled, with medals for John Territt, Patrick Baldwin, and Bernie Lawless.
