Planning permission is being sought for a gym to serve as a dedicated health, fitness and training facility for Killeshin GAA and the wider community.
Killeshin GAA Club applied to Laois County Council for planning permission for the new 205 square metre gym at the club at Cappalug, Killeshin on February 10, 2026.
Killeshin GAA Club’s Laurence Phelan is seeking to “construct a gym to the front of the existing GAA Clubhouse and all ancillary site works”.
In an accompanying letter, Mr Phelan said: “The proposed development consists of a purpose-built gym building and all associated site works, located adjacent to the existing clubhouse and within the established GAA lands. The development will serve as a dedicated health, fitness and training facility for club members and the wider community, enhancing existing recreational and sporting amenities already provided at this long-established community location.”
Mr Phelan said the proposed gym would enhance the amenity and functionality of the existing GAA grounds.
“The proposed development has been sited within the existing club lands to ensure minimal visual impact and to integrate with the established built form of the existing GAA clubhouse. Access will be via the existing entrance, with no alterations proposed to the current access arrangements onto the public road network,” he stated.
Laois County Council is expected to make a decision on the plans by April 6, 2026.
