New warning signs will be installed following accidents on a ‘bad bend’ at Ballylinan.

Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming requested the work on the Carlow Road in Ballylinan at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

He described it as a narrow road which has a lot of traffic. He asked for “some adjustment to it to reduce the level of incidents and accidents there”.

He asked in a motion “that Laois County Council install signage at the bad bend on the Carlow Road, Ballylinan (Junction at Aughanure ,Barrowhouse Road). There has been a number of car accidents at this location and some signs might help to indicate a bad bend ahead”.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer, Tom Drennan, said: “Laois County Council has assessed this and is currently arranging for the installation of warning signage at this location. Restoration maintenance works has also taken place on this section of road in recent years which has improved skid resistance.”

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran said “there has been a number of car accidents” at the location. She suggested signage that was “more reflective at night” at the location.

“There is a number of houses along that road and I still think the speed needs to be reduced there,” she added. She said “you are killing two birds with one stone” by reducing the speed there as it was on approach to the road.
