A man appeared in court accused of using a false no claims insurance certificate.

Ayodele Adetunji King (48) of Montague Hotel, Emo, Portlaoise is accused of using a false no claims document at an unknown location on February 25, 2023.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the case was to be dealt with in the district court subject to the judge accepting jurisdiction.

He said an underwriter at AXA reported that there was reasonable cause to suspect that a motor insurance policy was purchased on February 19, 2023 using a false no claims document. The estimated loss to the company was €1,587.27, said Sgt Kirby.

Judge Catherine Ryan accepted jurisdiction, ordered disclosure and adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on April 20.
