A busy one-way street in Portlaoise is still facing issues with speeding despite a speed ramp being installed there recently.

Local Councillor Paddy Buggy has called on Laois County Council to paint road signs on Jessop Street to remind drivers to slow down along the narrow residential road.

The Portlaoise councillor recently compared the street to Mondello Park due to the high speeds of cars travelling on the road.

Despite a speed ramp being installed on Jessop Street in recent weeks, Cllr Buggy told the April meeting of the Portlaoise MD that "unfortunately people are still driving too fast there."

Laois County Council agreed to install slow road markings on Jessop Street which is located just off Portlaoise's Main Street.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Buggy said: "Hopefully this new initiative along with the speed bump will bring home to people that they do need to drive slowly on that very narrow residential road."
