A man appeared in court accused of producing a large kitchen knife and assaulting a woman in Portlaoise. 

Lorcan O’Brien (22) of 47 Heather Lane, Esker Hills, Portlaoise, is accused of producing a large kitchen knife and assault causing harm at Heather Lane, Esker Hills, Portlaoise on December 4, 2025. 

Detective Sergeant Martin O’Sullivan said the defendant made no reply to the charge when cautioned. He said the DPP had directed that the matter be dealt with on indictment.

Judge Susan Fay said she would give six weeks for the service of a book of evidence. She adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on May 20.
