Laois County Council have been called to tackle speeding problems near a Laois sports facility.

Councillor Conor Bergin has urged Laois County Council to address the speeding issues on the road at Clonin Hill in Camross as a "matter of priority."

Speaking at the recent meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory / Mountmellick MD, Cllr Bergin said that a number of families living along the road have raised "severe concerns" with speeding in the area.

However, Laois County Council have said that the enforcement of speed limits is a matter for An Garda Síochána and it should be raised with them.

Laois County Council did assure that Clonin Hill will be considered for a Low-Cost Safety Scheme application in the future, with the next round of submissions in 2027.

Cllr Bergin said that there is "some hope at the end of the tunnel" regarding the possibility of the Low-Cost Safety Scheme.

The Fine Gael councillor noted that Clonin Sports Field is located near there and many children are being dropped off in the area.

With this in mind, he pushed for the road at Clonin Hill to be looked at as a separate case in order to tackle the speeding.

"There are people who are making it dangerous for everyone," Cllr Bergin told the council.
