Laois County Council may have to pick up the tab for unfinished work on linked estates with more than 100 houses
A lot of problems have yet to be fixed in Celtic Tiger era Mountmellick housing estates which Laois County Council has decided to take responsibility for.
Cllr Paddy Bracken called for an update on progress if any in relation to Silverwood, Silverglen and Silvebrook when he met with officials recently in County Hall.
A written reply from Evelyn Brownrigg, AO, Planning confirmed that the council had decided to take all three in charge.
She added that maps showing the roads involved would be on display in Laois County Council from Tuesday, November 11 to Thursday, December 22.
Cllr Bracken welcomed this but said the houses had been built some 20 years ago. He cautioned that a bond that would cover outstanding work no longer exists.
“It is disgraceful the way it has been left…There are well over 100 houses in the combined estates. People paid big money for their homes. The roads and footpaths were never properly completed and there’s an issue with public lighting,” he said.
He looked forward to seeing the outstanding work completed before the estates would be taken in charge.
