Laois County Fire & Rescue Service concerned
Laois fire services has warned about emergency access in a Rathdowney estate where residents have had to resort to parking on grass outside their homes because there is nowhere else to leave their cars.
That’s the claim made by Cllr John King, Fine Gael, in relation to Quigley Park. He tabled a motion at are recent meeting with Laois County Council calling for extra car parking in as people have “no choice” but to park on green area due to no room outside their own homes for extra spaces.
Cllr King told the meeting that he had been contacted by the County Laois Fire and Rescue Services who are concerned about access to hydrants.
“In order to have access for the fire and ambulance services we have to look at this,” he said.
He believes that there have been up to 40 extra cars on the estate since it was built. He said the ‘huge green area’ could be availed of.
Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied that the Council would meet with Cllr King in the estate to examine the current parking layout with a view to determining the needs of the residents for additional spaces.
The issue was raised at the Borris-in-Osory Mountmelllick Municipal District Meeting in November.
