A charity that resues husky dogs is the biggest Laois recipient of funding support the help community and voluntary groups with their energy bills.
Husky Rescue Ireland in Coolnacrutta, Coolnacritta not far from Cullohill on the Kilkenny border is getting €1,388 through the Community and Voluntary Energy Support Scheme.
The scheme was launched last month in response to the rising cost of energy and the impact it is having on the sector. Under the initiative, small grants are being provided to community groups, development associations, and volunteer-led organisations.
Husky Rescue Ireland say it was set up to alleviate the suffering caused to huskies and akitas by irresponsible ownership, abuse and neglect in Ireland. They rescue and rehome huskies and akitas, aim to reduce the social impact of abandoned and un-neutered dogs in communities all around Ireland.
As a non-profit organisation we rely solely on fundraising & public donations.
It is one of five Laois groups among the 180 organisations to have benefited from the grant scheme which remains open for applications until January 20 next year.
The other Laois recipients announced are:
Ministers Heather Humphreys and Joe O’Brien announced first tranche of successful applicants on Tuesday, December 13. A total of €251,723 was allocated to applicants around Ireland.
Pobal have been engaged to administer this scheme on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development.
This Fund is intended to provide once-off financial support towards the increase in energy costs in 2022 for organisations within the community and voluntary sector (as defined under eligible organisations).
Phase Two applications will be assessed following the application deadline on 20th January 2023, with announcements expected shortly thereafter.
