Laois estates that never had streetlights to get 2023 switch on

Laois estates that never had streetlights to get 2023 switch on

The switch is about to be flicked on new streetlights at two housing estates in Rathdowney where public lighting has never been provided.

So Cllr John King, Fine Gael, was told when he raised the it issue at a recent meeting with Laois County Council officials.

He tabled a motion asking for update on when the installation of public lights be carried out at The Glebe and Clarney housing estates beside the local cemetery Rathdowney. He motion added that this work would ensure the safety of all residents in the area.

“A lot of people are toing and froing but the lights were never installed,” he said.

Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.

“The installation of public lighting on the R435 at the entrance to the estates will be completed in the new year,” he said.

Cllr King welcomed this adding that he hoped it would be done in the first quarter as the money had already been sanctioned for the work.

The issue was raised at the December meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District in County Hall Portlaoise.
