Timahoe Village
Council engineers are going to assess a road with a view to installing a pedestrian crossing near a Laois school.
Cllr Paschal McEvoy raised the issue at the last meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
His motion requested: “That this Council install a pedestrian crossing at a location at Timahoe village to support safe crossing for children crossing the road while going and returning to school.”
In a written response, the council stated that: “The Road Design office will arrange to meet with Cllr McEvoy on site to assess the problem and identify a solution.”
Cllr McEvoy said the measure was “badly needed” and people have been contacting him in relation to the need for a crossroads in the area.
“Just to allow those kids walk safely across the road towards the church,” he said.
Cllr PJ Kelly agreed and explained that the kids have to cross the road there.
