Companies invited to build a beach resort in land-locked Laois

Laois's first Beach Resort goes to tender

Builders are being invited to tender for the construction of Laois’s first ever beach resort.

Pond Beach Resort at Clomeen North in Errill is sure to make a splash as the only beach resort in the county.

As Laois has no beach of its own and doesn't border another country with a coastline, Iveta Melgaile and Patrick Bowe decided to provide the county with a beachside resort.

The planned beach resort consists of a new glamping site complete with buildings for leisure, sports, culture, lodging and restaurants.

Companies interested in winning the contract will be aske dot install three glamping pods, proprietary wastewater treatment system and polishing filter and all associated site works.

The first phase of the tender was issued this week. The deadline for tender is April 8th.

Laois County Council granted planning permission for the project January 2022.

The construction of a beach in any inland area would be novel but it is even more unusual for Laois which is the only county in Ireland that doesn't touch another county that does not touch the sea.
