The late Sean Boyle
There was sadness and shock in the south Donegal area at the weekend with news of the sudden death of former Aodh Ruadh footballer and manager, Sean Boyle of Creevy, Ballyshannon, which occurred after he was out for a walk on Rossnowlagh on Sunday.
The late Mr Boyle, in his mid-60s, was well-known for his involvement with the GAA over a long number of years.
He was captain of the first ever Aodh Ruadh U-14 winning team in 1972 and three years later he was corner-forward on the St Joseph's team that won the 1975 county senior championship and a year later was part of the side that won Donegal and Ulster senior club championships. He represented Donegal at minor and U-21 level.
The forward line was where he made his mark, as a powerfully built player. He would still be playing his part when Aodh Ruadh made a comeback in 1986 and 1987, winning county senior titles.
After his playing days, Sean went on to manage the Ballyshannon club and was at the helm when they won again at senior level in 1994.
He would later manage Melvin Gaels to a Leitrim title.
Funeral arrangements later. All enquiries to John McGee & Sons Funeral Home on 087 2218483.
