Fairtrade Fortnight supports farmers and workers in developing countries

Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 will run from Monday, February 27, until Sunday, March 12.

Fairtrade Fortnight is the highlight of the year, when campaigners, businesses, schools, and places of worship show their support for the farmers and workers who grow our food in developing countries.

Fairtrade is based on a partnership between some of the most disadvantaged farmers and workers in the developing world and the people who buy their products.

When farmers and workers can sell on Fairtrade terms, it provides them with a better opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future.

This Fairtrade Fortnight, join us in spreading a simple message: Be Fair-Do Sustainable. Choose Fairtrade now and help save our favourite foods as well as farmers livelihoods, and the environment!

Adou Boa Jean Baptiste Ehouman, a cocoa farmer in Cote d’Ivoire tells us, “It is important to share that with climate change the production is low and impacts our financial means.”

This means cocoa, bananas and coffee products could soon be much more difficult to find on our shelves! https://www.fairtrade.ie/ fortnight/

Carrick-on-Shannon Fairtrade Steering Group will be hosting awareness events to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight.

Coffee Morning and Parade
On Monday, February 27, at 10am in Esquires Coffee House, there is a Fairtrade Coffee Morning to mark the launch.
And on Tuesday, March 7, at 11am, Fairtrade supporters are invited to assemble at Kelly’s Shop and will parade through the town to the Market Yard.

More of us choosing Fairtrade means extra income, power, and support for those communities, as they work to build sustainable and prosperous futures. That’s the good news. Choosing Fairtrade is better for people and planet, and it could help save everyday treats like chocolate, bananas, and a cuppa!

The Carrick-on-Shannon Fairtrade Steering Group would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses and customers who continue to support this worthy cause.
