The top five female athletes
Kinlough’s Olympian Breege Connolly was the first female across the finish line at the annual Bundoran 10 mile running event held in the seaside town on Saturday.
Running the course in a time of 58 minutes and 15 seconds, Breege was 17th overall in the event which saw over 1100 pound the streets and the country roads around Bundoran and Tullaghan.
Speaking after to Michael Daly, Breege said “it was just perfect conditions – it was really good to be back. It is a great course. I really want to do a marathon so I’ve a lot of work to do” Offering advice to potential younger runners she said “Just get out the door”!
The top 5 females were Breege Connolly followed by Sara Doohan (Corran AC), Ciara Toner (City of Derry Spartans), Helen McCready (Rosses AC) and Maria Mulligan.
Meanwhile Jake O’Regan of St John’s AC in County Clare was first across the line for the second time in as many years on Saturday.
Running the 10 miles in 49 minutes and 23 seconds, O’Regan missed the course record that he himself set in 2022 by just 43 seconds. Speaking after the race to Michael Daly he said ‘I probably got a bit too excited at the start – it’s my first race back since last November and I got the buzz of the start line again.’ Jake added that he was hoping to tackle a marathon this year and hoped with the events coming up he would be in good shape to complete one.
The top 5 male were Jake O’Regan (49’23”), Tudor Moldovan (Clonliffe Harriers), Danny Mooney (Letterkenny AC), Eoghain McGinley (Letterkenny AC) and Mark Wallace (Letterkenny AC).
Race Director Canice Nicholas added ‘The conditions couldn’t have been better for our event. Once again the beautiful scenery of Bundoran and the surrounding area out to Tullaghan in County Leitrim was on full display. We were delighted to have Jake as well as many of Ireland’s top runners including local Olympian Breege Connolly back again to compete at our event. A huge word of thanks to everyone who helped with the event in any way especially the volunteer marshals and safety team. The list is too long but please know that everyone’s input is appreciated.’
