Three years after it was first scheduled to run but was cancelled due to Covid restrictions, Yellow River Players present their hilarious comedy, ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’.
Directed and produced by sisters Stephanie Prior and Angela Fitzpatrick, the cast and crew are very excited to finally showcase this production, which was cancelled just days before it was due to hit the stage in 2020.
This hilarious 3 Act Comedy, written by Sam Cree is set in the 1960s in a living room behind the antique shop of ‘Andrew Coulter’ (Alan Banks).
Andy is a widower and lives with his son ‘Brian’ (Brendan Sammon) who has dreams of becoming a worldwide music sensation, and with his father ‘Grandad’ (Seamus Prior), who is hard of hearing and fond of the whiskey!
His married daughter ‘Daphne’ (Sharon Smyth) tries to keep on top of the cleaning and laundry and worries about her father, but they all have their work cut out pleasing ‘Aunt Harriet’ (Stephanie Prior), Andy’s sister-in-law, who has an opinion on everything and is not shy in letting people know what she thinks!
Daphne decides its time Andy found himself a wife.
But the course of true love does not run smoothly, which unfolds throughout the play.
Andy isn’t keen on the idea at first but after a run in with Harriet, Andy is determined to win the bet and prove her wrong!
Andy meets three potential suitors. The first is Scottish Beauty ‘Ingrid’ (Jennifer Corbett), the next is a chatty, chain smoking widow, ‘Gladys’ (Maedhbh McTeigue) and finally we meet a budgie loving Maiden, ‘Miss Isabelle Stanfield’ (Anglea Fitzpatrick).
After meeting the three ladies Andy finds himself in a very awkward situation following several hilarious misunderstandings!
To try to get Andy out of the mess he is in, his son Brian enlists the help of Ronnie (James McCaffrey) who is ‘Not what he looks to be, but he can pretend that he is, when he’s not’!
Who will save the day? And will Andy win the bet? Will he find true love?
This play will appeal to everyone as it is fun and lighthearted. The cast have been perfectly selected to suit their roles, so all you need to do is take your seat and enjoy!
Everybody is invited to come to Aughnasheelin Community Centre this Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19 and next weekend March 25 and 26.
Tickets will on sale on the door. Curtain raises at 8.30pm so come early to avoid disappointment.
