Connacht Schools Chess Final

The event was attended by numerous schools from Connacht and there was a competitive and intense atmosphere in the room. The lunchtime chess club in Room 10 is lively and open to anyone who wishes to attend and hone their chess skills. Thank you to Ms Benson for accompanying the students on the day.

Young Social Innovators 2023
Well done to both TY groups that took part in this years YSI Speak Out event held in the Radisson hotel in Sligo. Both groups presented their projects on stage in a fun and engaging way. Group one was ‘knit and natter’. They looked at connecting the older generation to the young people in society. Group two are working on a Sensory Garden for students in our ASD classroom. Both fantastic projects, making a huge social difference. Thank you to Ms Carty who runs the YSI programme each year in the school with the TY students.

Run a Mile Challenge
On Wednesday, March 28, 1st, 2nd and TY students took part in the run a mile challenge. Ms Carden organises the event on a yearly basis and was delighted to see its return after Covid. Results and class winners will be announced after Easter.

LC Music Practicals
Congratulations to all the L.C. Music Students who completed their L.C. Music Practical last week. Each student had to perform 4 pieces and complete a Music Technology exam.
Together, they are worth 50% of their final Music Grade. There was a great mix of music, with performances of music by Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sinead O’Connor, Elton John, Christy Moore, Arctic Monkeys, Passenger, Amy Winehouse and many more, as well as music from the musicals Grease, Mamma Mia and Showboat and of course a few Jigs, Reels and Hornpipes!
These were performed on a great mixture of instruments – voice, piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, tin whistle and accordion. Some students played/sang solo, some accompanied others and there was also a band/group performance.
Well done to all students involved and to Mrs Beirne, their music teacher.

World Book Day
World Book Day was celebrated in St Clare’s on Friday, March 31, it was the final day in the school to celebrate literacy with many other events such as drop all and read and 1st year book mark competition organised during the week.
Thank you to Ms Lacres for organising the events throughout the week.
