‘Dr. Dolittle’ – a show for children coming to The Dock

This wonderful adventure is at The Dock, in Carrick-on-Shannon, on Thursday, April 27 with two showings at 10am and 11.30am.

The re-telling of Hugh Lofting’s famous tale has been adapted by Mike Brooks, of Barking Dog Theatre and is suitable for children aged 5 - 10 years old.

So, whether it’s a school group or a group of pals, you can book your place to see this fun retelling of an old favourite – with plenty of laughs.

Dr Dolittle, the vet who can speak to animals, has captured the minds and hearts of families around the world since Hugh Lofting first created the timeless character while writing home to his children from the trenches during the first world war.

Dr Dolittle later became the central character in a series of books and films.

The Barking Dog Theatre Company will bring us along on one of his thrilling misadventures in this brand-new show (based on the first book of the series "The Story of Dr Dolittle") for children aged between five and 11 years.

In this adventure, Dr Dolittle is called on to help cure an outbreak of disease among the monkeys in Africa. He heads off on a long and perilous journey with his trusty dog Jip, his parrot Polynesia, and his monkey Chee Chee.

And then - Oh no! He gets shipwrecked and captured! Will he ever get to help those monkeys? Come along to find out!

Barking Dog's two talented actors (with the help of some puppets and children from the audience) present this wonderful adventure, at The Dock, in Carrick-on-Shannon, on Thursday, April 27. There will be two showings, the first at 10am, followed by the second at 11.30am.

With original music and audience participation as well as use of puppetry and mime, this is an ideal outing for school or family groups.
