A footpath and perhaps even a pedestrian bridge might be provided to connect the Cuan Eislinne estate to the existing footpath at the railway bridge in Dromod.
A footpath and even the possibility of a pedestrian bridge are on the table to connect a housing estate to the existing footpath at the railway bridge in Dromod.
At the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting this month, Cllr Sean McGowan asked that the Council look at providing a short stretch of footpath under Active Travel from Cuan Eislinne housing estate in Dromod to link up with the footpath serving the railway station and supermarket in Dromod.
“At present there is no safe way for people to walk from the village to the station and the shop,” he told the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting.
Cllr McGowan said it is extremely difficult for elderly people in particular and is dangerous.
He said a footpath would leave it much safer for people going to the station and the shop.
Cllr Thomas Mulligan agreed and said it had been brought to his attention also.
Cllr Des Guckian lent his support and asked if a pedestrian bridge could be installed similar to the one in Leitrim Village.
Darragh O’Boyle, District Engineer, said Dromod village is not connected to the railway station or the shop by a continuous footpath.
He said he has spoken to Active Travel about it and they will keep it on the agenda and will submit it to the department for funding.
He said that a footpath and even a pedestrian bridge is on the table for that location.
Cllr McGowan welcomed the reply.
