Manorhamilton and District Historical Society recently published book ‘Shades of War in North Leitrim 1919-1923’ was launched in The Glens Centre Manorhamilton by Tommie Gorman, well known journalist, author and former current affairs reporter with RTE, on Friday evening, April 21.
After Tommie’s inspiring address Margaret Connolly, on behalf of the Historical Society, presented him with a special ceramic triptych depicting Glencar and crafted by local ceramic artist Bairbre Kennedy.
The book is part of the decade of centenaries programme and unique in the fact that many locals contributed articles.
The packed audience included relatives of some of those who had lost their lives in the War of Independence and the civil war.
A special attendee was a youthful 96-year-old Patrick Lynott who presented the historical society with a picture of his grandfather James Lynott, taken during his period of detention in Dundalk Gaol 1881 for land league activities.
The book is available from Caz-Cards, Main St, Manorhamilton.
