€2.1m for Leitrim in Community Recognition Fund

€1m for Shannonside Regional Multi-Sports Recreational Campus at Carrick-on-Shannon

Support for sport funding

Local Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan has this morning welcomed over €2m allocated to projects throughout Co Leitrim under the Community Recognition Fund announced by the Minister for Community and Rural Development, Heather Humphreys TD.

“I am thrilled to see this level of funding for Co Leitrim which is valued at 100% of the project, I want to acknowledge the community volunteers who put together really good applications which will make a significant difference for so many residents across the county” declared Deputy Feighan.

Leitrim Grants:

Drumshanbo Mayflower Community Centre (Restoring Basketball Courts) €169,588

Drumshanbo Athletics Club (Astro Turf Pitch & Running Track) €45,966

Drumshanbo Mayflower Community Centre (Renovation Works) €86,900

Carrick-on-Shannon Shannonside Regional Multi-sports Recreational Campus (phase 1 – preparation works and pitch development) €1,000,000

Carrigallen Margaret of New Orleans Community Group - Purchase of Community Centre €250,000

Carrigallen Tidy Towns Lakeside Amenity Improvements - Disability access, biodiversity elements, play area, lighting, information signs €36,419

Carrigallen Tidy Towns - Bus Shelter, Seating and Planting €34,412

Leitrim Development Association & Leitrim Gaels Community Gym/Astro Pitch/Bus Shelter/Street Furniture €250,000

Ballinamore Island Theatre – Community Cinema €40,813

Dromahair Arts and Recreation Centre (DARC) – Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) €120,000

Manorhamilton Bee Park Sports Hub – Gym Equipment €38,500

Mohill Community and Sports Hub – upgrade of toilets and meeting rooms €72,242

Lough Keel Scouts – Carrick-on-Shannon, Ballinamore, Mohill – replacement engine for boat €39,586.

The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used by all members of the community.

Announcing the first tranche of the successful project, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said, “This funding will help these communities to develop projects ranging from largescale multi-purpose sports facilities, transport infrastructure such as community vehicles and bus shelters, walks, playgrounds and equipment for sports clubs. 

Carrick-on-Shannon based Cllr Finola Armstrong McGuire said she is delighted to see the large injection of funding into the county for each project.

“Congratulations especially to the hardworking committees who give hours voluntarily to the task of putting together applications for our community groups. 

“This funding recognises the work of the voluntary sector leading towards community integration which is vital in our county,” she said.
