The Curlew Conservation Programme involves locally based teams of advisors, community engagement and nest protection officers, working closely with landowners and other local interests, to protect Curlew nesting attempts and to improve habitat quality.

The Curlew has suffered widespread declines across its European range. Nowhere has this been more severe than in Ireland where experts have estimated a 97% decline since the 1980’s

The programme places the landowner and the birds at the centre of all considerations, with key goals of giving the Curlews a better chance of rearing chicks and stopping the population sliding further towards extinction.

Further information is available from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (https://www.npws.ie/farmers-and-landowners/schemes/curlew-conservation-programme) of from any of the team members.
